Where's my website on Google? Never ask again with these 5 SEO copywriting secrets

Let me tell you a secret, 75% of users will NEVER scroll past page one of Google, kind of depressing isn’t it? If only I knew something that could help…..oh I do! Read on for my 5 SEO copywriting secrets to get your website noticed on Google!

Where is my website on Google? Edinburgh Copywriter - Claire Maclachlan-
  1. Headlines - you never walk past a newspaper and pick it up because its got a catchy headline do you? Oh yes..you do, that’s the point! Just like a newspaper, headlines on each page of your website tell not only the user, but also Google what that page is about and for that reason it is probably one of, if not THE most important pieces of content to think about. Think about it, most website users scan the page, why? Because they are looking for an answer quickly to solve their problem, if they see a headline which captures their attention and draws them in, guess what? They are going to stick around to find out what is below it.

  2. Sub-heading - what Claire we just talked about headlines? Yes you are right, we talked about Header 1 this is Header 2! Whilst your main headline needs to reflect the main topic of the page, the sub-heading gets too offer a bit more description. Sort of if the headline is the bride, sub-heading 2 is the bridesmaid running around telling everyone what they need to do and where they want to be.

  3. Keywords - have you ever thought about what people actually type into Google? If you did you would realise that people write in a way they think, here’s an example, say you were looking for a ‘black party dress to wear to the races that has sequins’ what would you type into Google? That! Its called a long tail keyword and its what people are using for their searches, so your very experienced copywriter goes away and searches all those SEO keywords people are typing in to find businesses exactly like yours! Those keywords are then very carefully used in your copy (but I won’t tell you how that’s too many secrets).

  4. No thin content here - fat, thin, little, large, even in the world of the web and copywriting these words come up! Why? When it comes to your website, too little content is a bad thing and Google will penalise you for it! Now obviously we don’t want any old copy written down, but rather carefully constructed, well thought out copy that fills the page and helps to build trust in the reader, telling them all the features but more importantly the benefits of whats in it for them and why you are the business to give it to them.

  5. Backlinks - mmm no idea what you are talking about Claire? Think of these as word of mouth but online, so say a high ranking website one that Google places authority on includes your website link, ie they are linking back to you, then Google will think that you are a trusted website and rank you accordingly. Its social proof that your website knows what its doing. Great SEO copywriters can help you achieve these backlinks through writing blogs that other websites may want to publish, creating e-books that other websites want to include and many more.

Now I would say that’s it in a nutshell but then everyone would be doing it! There is a definite art to SEO copywriting and that is why a professional copywriter is the best investment you and your business can make, and really when you think about it, its a very small investment for what can ultimately bring huge success to your business.
